The title page records Waddington as 'Einstein Professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo' as well as 'Professor of Animal Genetics at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland'. Waddington was Einstein Professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo from 1970-1972, so it would appear that the typescript itself dates from within that time period. It is not known when the copy was made.

The copied typescript includes handwritten corrections. The handlist (H41) records that it is th 'TS of English text of article for Encilopedia Italiana', but it is not known whether this is indeed the case.
