Fragments of a psalter, 11th century
Scope and Contents
Possibly from a Psalter, it contains part of the Service of the Dead (includes Collects, Anthems, Responds, and Verses preceding Matins, and Matins to the middle of the 3rd lesson of the 3rd nocturne). The usual Psalms, Anthems, Responds, and Verses are found, though occasionally the order varies. The lessons are very unusual, and being much mutilated are difficult to trace. Roughly 1/3 of the first leaf has been cut vertically, and the page also looks cropped horizontally. It is possible to identify Nedes alienis ho[...] at the bottom of the first leaf, the beginning of the first lesson of the first nocturne. The third lesson of the third nocturne occurs at the bottom of f. 2v, beginning: Ipse ses. diligenter satis qui [. . .] es domini sicut fur ita in nocte veniet. It ends mid-sentence with Ves aut. fres. non...
It has been taken from the binding of MS 74.
