 part
Identifier: MS 107/ff. 1r-28v

Contents

This section of the manuscript contains De Miseria Condicionis Humane (On the wretchedness of the human condition), a tract written by Pope Innocent III, sometimes called Liber de contemptu mundi. This tract is about asceticism and was originally written at the end of the 12th century, before Innocent III became pope.

This section is titled Incipit tractatus domini pape Innocentii tertii de contemptu mundi and starts on f. 1r with the words Domino patri karissimo Petro dei gratia portuensi episcopo Lotharius. This is the preface, which ends on this folio with the words humilis exaltetur.

The text itself also starts on f. 1r, with the words Quare de vulva. It ends on f. 28v with the words vivos et mortuos et seculum per ignem. Amen. Explicit tractatus domini pape Innocentii tertii de contemptu mundi.

Writing

This section is written in a different hand than that of the fly-leaves, but is the same hand as the next section. It is late 13th-century Gothic.
