Sermo de miseria humana by Pseudo-Bernard of Clairvaux, late 15th century

 part
Identifier: MS 103/ff. 27v-332v

Scope and Contents

The text is a translation of a Latin sermon attributed to Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153, abbot, founder of the Cistercian order, and Doctor of the Church) with the title Sermo de miseria humana (the Latin text is published in Patrologia Latina 184, columns 1109-1114C).

The sermon is introduced by the rubricated words Incommença el libro de san Bernardo: De la miseria de lhomo e del despresio del mondo. The main text begins on the same folio with the words O HOMO el quale sei conposto de anima rationale e de humana carne. It ends on f. 32v with the words savio consigliatore e piatoso salvatore e sopra ogni cosa fortissimo adiutore e padre del futuro seculo e donatore de vita eterna.

An addition to the text, marked by a stroke on the manuscript, begins at the end the fourth line on f. 32v. The text of the addition is Vogli adoncha o homo che cerchi di salvarte lassare le concupiscentie de la carne e despretia questo misero mondo e achostate con tutol cuore al tuo signor dio e metti tuta la tua sperança in lui e lui te dara vita beata e vita sepiterna dove con lui regnerai e felice e beato serai. In secula seculorum. Amen. Explicit.
