Peniteas Cito by William de Montibus, with gloss, 13th-14th century
Contents
This section contains the Liber Penitencialis, usually referred to by its first line, Peniteas Cito. This is a verse summary of the sacrament of penance. It was written by William de Montibus, a famous 12th-century teacher from Lincoln. However, it is often wrongly attributed to Johannes de Garlandia (John of Garland). In this manuscript, there is also a gloss and annotations.
The text begins on f. 97r with the words Peniteas cito peccator, cum sit miserator and ends on f. 109r.
It should also be noted that f. 105r has a patch that has been stuck onto the page to make an amendment. It seems to have been cut from f. 123.
This section starts in a slightly different hand than the previous sections, but finishes in one that is similar. There are also annotations in a later hand. It is late 13th-century Gothic.
