De conservanda sanitate by Barnabas de Riatinis of Reggio, 15th century
Contents
ff. 76-120 contain a treatise by Barnabas de Riatinis of Reggio, a fourteenth-century Italian physician and author of (perhaps three) medical texts. Written in Mantua in 1331, the De conservanda sanitate is a manual for the general preservation of health. Barnabas dedicated this text to the nobles and a lord "Symoni of Corrigia", and the first line of which reads: Incipit libellus de conservanda sanitate aggregatus ex dictis sapientum medicine per magistrum barnabum de Riatinis de Regio. Magne nobilitatis et potentie viro domino Symoi de Corrigia suo domino...
Following the dedication, the text contains a preface, and six books. The preface begins on f. 78r (there is rubric of the text on the previous two folios, after the dedication): Quia sanitas conservatur in corpore sano...
The final book (Book Six) ends on f. 120r with the line honestum est et veritatem amantes. Explicit libellus de conservanda sanitate. Deo Gracias.
This text is by a second hand in MS 175. It is a neat Italian gothic script in black ink with blue and red capitals.
