Biographical / Historical
The interviews with former staff of the Institute of Animal Genetics took place from 1969-1971 as part of an oral history project established by David Edge, then head of the Science Studies Unit. The interviews themselves were conducted by his research assistant,
Margaret Deacon. Deacon went on to use these recordings, as well as archive material at Edinburgh University Library, to produce a history of the early period of the Institute's history, titled 'The Institute of Animal Genetics at Edinburgh - the first twenty years.'

Custodial History
The recordings were originally made on 37 reel to reel tapes, which are held at the School of Scottish Studies, University of Edinburgh. These tapes were copied to cassette in by. In 1999, copies on CDs were made, a set retained and a set deposited with the British Library. In 2015, electronic files were extracted from the CDs.
