De venerabili sacramento altaris, 1466
Contents
The text is in the form of a commentary on several biblical passages. Catherine Borland attributes it to Albertus Magnus (Albert the Great, c. 1193 - 1280), German Dominican friar, bishop, theologian and philosopher; it is also included in the group of texts linked to Thomas Aquinas (1225 - 1274), Italian Dominican friar, one of the most important philosophers and theologians in the tradition of scholasticism and an undisputed authority on the doctrine of the Catholic Church. The author of the text, however, remains unknown.
It begins on f. 1r with the words Tractatus de Corpore Christi. Venite commedite panem meum et bibite vinum. Proverbia 6. Hiis verbis dominus nos invitat ad salutare convivium; it ends on f. 49r with the words ad quam nos perducere dignetur Jhesus Christus Dominus noster. Amen. The margins contain many short notes and indexes (i.e. little hands which point at important passages inthe text with their index finger).
The text is followed by a colophon (i.e. final note): Explicit hoc opus preciosum de sacramento / dominici corporis et sanguinis Christi anno / domini m.ccc.lxvi dominica post festum / corporis Christi hora quasi decima per / fratrem Syfridum Slimdlin. In monte / Sancti Gothardi. In this short text, the scribe reports his own name (Syfridum Slimdlim), and the place and date of writing (Saint-Gotthard in Switzerland, on the sunday after the celebration of the Corpus Domini); he even indicates the precise hour in which he finished (see also descriptions under MS.78/ff. 63r-81v; MS.78/ff. 98r-104v).
