Expositio sive interpretatio vulgari missae secundum fratrem Bertholdum, 15th century
Contents
Similarly to that at ff. 94r-97v, with which it shares the subject matter, this text is an explanation of the furnishings, vestments and liturgy used during the Holy Mass and it is accompanied by short rubrics in the margins (in Latin), which indicate the topic of the different sections. It purports to follow the interpretation of the Mass given by 'brother Bertholdus' in his preachings. The name brother Bertholdus possibly refers to Berthold von Regensburg (c. 1220 - 1242), a German Franciscan friar who became extremely famous as a preacher.
The text begins on f. 109r with the words Diss is die bezeychunge der heyligen Mess als sie bruder Berthold predigt; it ends on f. 114v with the words Der alt und der junge, der sich und der gesunde Die haben unglich stunde was(?) Discordant canus juvenis fragilis quoque sanus. It also contains a short extract in Latin, written in smaller script, which begins with Bernardus de unione anime cum deo etc Non sunt inventa aeque dulcia nomina and ends with duos constituit in uno spiritu etc (f. 114v).
