Leges Quatuor Burgorum, 1496

This section contains the Leges Quatuor Burgorum, or the Laws of the Four Burghs. This legal text regulated Lothian law, and was part of King David I’s codifiication of Scottish law, which he achieved mainy through the Leges inter Brettos et Scottos, or the Laws of the Brets and Scots, which was promulgated around the same time as the Leges Quatuor Burgorum.
In this manuscript, these laws start on f. 130r and contain 159 titles, including Assisa Vini et Cervisie, Assisa de Ponderibus et Mensuris, Custuma Portuum, and Iter Camerarii. It ends on f. 150v with the words Vide Assisas Regis David primi Rubricas xii, xiii, xiiii, etc. Expliciunt leges burgorum.
There are some notes and inscriptions following this section, on f. 151v.
This section is in a different hand from the previous section, but is written in the same hand as the following section; folios 1-129 are one hand, and folios 130-335 are in another
