Septem Gaudia Beatae Virginis Mariae (rhymed), early 16th century
Contents
'The Seven Joys of the Virgin' are the counterpart of the 'Seven sorrows'. They are a set of devotional prayers which were very popular in the Middle Ages. This version is rhymed and is followed by another prayer and by a collect (i.e. a type of short prayer with a specific structure).
The prayers begin on f. 84r with the words Gaude virgo stella manis sponsa Christi singularis and end on f. 85v with et in futuro iocunditati eterne tribuas esse confortes. Per Christum dominum nostrum. Amen.
