Liber de honestate mulierum by Pseudo-Saint Augustine, 1457
Scope and Contents
Text entitled Liber de honestate mulierum beati Augustini ('Book on the honour of women by Saint Augustine'), starting on f. 278v with the words 'Nemo dicat fratres quod in temporibus nostris, and ending on f. 279v with 'misericordia plena est terra. Explicit liber de honestate mulierum finitus et completus per me G. B. in L. in vigilia Jacobi Apostoli hora vesperarum vel quinta. Anno 1457, etc. (... Here ends the book on the honour of women, completed by myself, G. B. in L., on the vigil of Saint James the Apostle, during the vespers or the fifth hour. Year 1457').
This work was wrongly attributed to Augsutine of Hippo, and was in fact written by Caesarius of Arles. It is also known under the title De Fuga Mulierum (sermon 41).
