Scope and Contents

Autograph letter signed by John Scott, sent from Edinburgh to his brother Walter Scott (1653-1729, grandfather of Sir Walter Scott and merchant in Kelso) on the 24th March 1708. It answers one he received on the 15th, and regards arrangements concerning heritable rights to land, and moveables from a deceased estate. He expresses surprise, and refers to jealousies, and the matter may be in the process of resolution. A note on the back reads: 'letter from John Scot [sic] to his brother Walter Scot, renouncing any right heretable or moveable etc.'
