"This boy is mentally backward, also a peculiar character, sinister, follows girls about in the street. His people have a lot of trouble with him, he will not do anything he is told. Always in mischief. Labourer. Father dead. Mother about 50. Good home, not overcrowded, harmonious. [Male informant] this boy used to be terribly cruel. Killing young birds etc. and has had some terrible skelpings. Has turned out better than he expected. "They thought he would be a maniac.""
