An extract from the catalogue of the Dublin exhibition (Ui Breasail) reads "With the wars of indepedence the town began to take on a new character. It was probably first walled in the time of Edward I, and from now onwards became more and more crowded." (p. 37). A second extract reads "...To this is directly traceable the long overcrowding and underhousing of Edinburgh with high rents and land values." (p, 38).
