Tron Square, c 1890-c 1910

South part of Tron Square. Tron Square consists of two rectangular courts, each with buildings on three sides and the south side open. The North part, which is the first part to be approached from High Street via Old Assembly Close, is at a higher elevation, so that the flats in it overlook the backs of those in the South part, which is turn has now a view across the Cowgate to the tall buidlings in Guthrie Street and Chambers Street beyond. The whole complex (built 1899) has been renovated at some point prior to 1998. These photographs were both taken, looking towards the north, when the buildings were comparatively new. Children and lamposts are seen in the foreground, laundry on a washing line hangs across the length of the second story balcony, a woman can be seen standing on the third floor balcony.
