Scope and Contents
The Palace of Castel Gondolfo, also known as the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo from the Italian 'Pallazo Apostolico di Castel Gandolfo. A complex of buildings and a garden, with 17th century villa, observatory and farmhouse, served for centuries as a summer residence and vacation retreat for the Pope, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church. It is afforded extraterritorial status as one of the properties of the Holy Sea. The oldest parts date back to the 13th century.
