Scope and Contents
Thomson announces his intention to retire from the Indian Medical Service and to seek employment in the new Department of Tropical Medicine in the University of Edinburgh. He goes on to describe his work experience in tropical medicine and states that he has spoken to Sir William Turner and Sir Thomas Fraser regarding a possible position within the University.

Biographical / Historical
The Diploma in Tropical Medicine at the University of Edinburgh was instituted in 1905 at the request of the Faculty of Medicine. In 1916 the course was extended to meet the needs of men studying for the degree of BSc in Veterinary Science, and was further extended in 1930, with the establishment of the Diploma in Tropical Veterinary Medicine.
