Scope and Contents

A collection of the speeches, mandates, educational works, wise sayings, and sermons of 'Alī b. Abī Ṭalib, cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muḥammad, and First Imām of Shi'i Islam. It was compiled by al-Sharīf al-Raḍī Abū al-Ḥasan Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn b. Mūsá (d.406 A.H., 1015 C.E.).

Custodial History

Bears an inscription in Persian to the effect that the owner bought it in 1179 A.H. (1765 C.E.) in a soiled state.

Donated to the University of Edinburgh Library by Lieutenant-Colonel John Baillie of Leys' grandson, also named John Baillie, in 1876.
