Scope and Contents

A collection of letters and documents kept by Netta Ivory which relate to the humane destruction of animals and evidence against the method of electrocution as a humane method of destruction. Documents include;
1. Letter from R.P. Paddison to Netta Ivory, 7th May 1922, responding to Ivory's concerns about the use of electricity in destroying dogs in dog homes. This letter dsecribes the process and its shortcomings.
2. Two letters addressed to the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home regarding the charity's stance that electrocution is not a humane method of animal distruction and should not happen at the home. Dated 8th and 9th May, 1923.
3. A letter from the SSPCA to Netta Ivory enclosing a copy letter from the Battersea Dog Home, London, about how they do not use electrocution as a method of destruction due to uncertainties about voltage, 20th June 1923.
4. A typed note addressed to Mr Landwill asking for electrocution not to be introduced to the Broughton Dog and Cat Home, 8th May 1923
5. Leaflet, "How to Shoot Animals Humanely", published by the American Humane Association, Albany, N.Y.
6. Testimony of the shocking cruelty to animals which may be and in involved in electrocuting there. This document is a combination of printed and handwritten text.
7. A letter of response from N.F. Finlay stating the benefits of using electrocution on putting down dogs, 10th March 1924
