1955
JKN to GS. Recommendation of a date for Independence.
1960
GS to JKN. Asks JKN about the benefits he received from his time at Edinburgh University; JKN TO GS. Reply to the above; GS to JKN. Covering letter for article; Jean W. Wilson (Mrs) to GS. Appreciated GS's article. Recalled Nyerere as one who fitted in as a member of the family; Enquiries about suitable resting place for Kongo, Ms. (2 letters 1960 and 1967); JKN to Editor of East Africa and Rhodesia. Attitude to Kenyatta's release.
1961
GS to JKN. Dinner to celebrate the Independence of Tanganyika, University Jambo Club. GS sends a copy of his speech.
1962
JKN to Editor of New Statesman. His resignation as Prime Minister. He sees the move as a re-allocation of manpower. He has confidence in Mr Kawawa and the Cabinet; JKN to GS. Sends a copy of his pamphlet 'The Second Scramble'.
1963
JKN to GS. Pleased that Professor Shepperson is to represent Edinburgh University at the inauguration of the University of East Africa; Rectorial Election, University of Edinburgh, 2 letters, a leaflet and Umoja – the magazine of the Rectorial Committee.
1964
GS to JKN. The possibility of interest in publishing 'Ujama'. J. Dover Wilson to GS. Considers JKN should have "pitched on" 'Othello'; Joan E. Wicken (PA to JKN) to OUP. JKN is reluctant to have his biography written just then; Lady Listowel and GS. Her manuscript (5 items). Includes JKN's essay on race problem, written when he was a student.

OUP to GS. JKN is willing for GS to start collecting material for a 'Big Biography'.
1966

1972
GS to JKN. Death of Kenneth Mackenzie. Acknowledgement of above.
1975
Joan E. Wicken to University Chaplain. The President is pleased to hear that the University of Edinburgh is proposing to establish a fund for students from South African countries.
1976
GS to JKN. He has been showing Pius Msekwa, JKN's Vice-Chancellor, around places in Edinburgh associated with JKN.
1981
International Conference on 'History of Black in Britain'. Message from JKN.
1987
GS TO JKN. Expresses gratitude for JKN's 'Address' at Edinburgh. Sends books promised; GS to JKN. Forwards two letters from Alemneh Dejene, Ethiopian Scholar at Harvard University, also CV.
1988
JKN to GS. Grateful for Standard Swahili-English Dictionary. Anxious to have any old Swahili books; GS to JKN. He is sending Bishop Steere's Swahili Tales and Outline of the Kisnahel Language; Obituary: Fenner Brockway; 'People' – a cutting. Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, Chairman of the South Commission and former President of Tanzania receives the Distinguished Son of Africa Award (April).
1989
GS to JKN. He is sending Xerox copy of JKN's British History notes; JKN to GS. Acknowledges copy of 'Krapf's Kiswahili language'. Newspaper cutting: Nuru Nyerere (architectural student) awarded Strathclyde Regional Council's silver medal (July).
1990
JKN to GS. Congratulates GS on CBE. Nuru Nyerere is JKN's niece. GS to JKN. 'South Commission Report' should be widely read. GS is to receive Honorary Doctorate. Nkrumah's grand-daughter is spending a year at Edinburgh University.
