Scope and Contents
Folder containing sketches of architectural and sculptural details and letters drawn in pencil or pen and ink over pencil on squared paper. Each sheet bears on its recto up to 24 drawings of European mediaeval architectural and sculptural designs, including ground plans and architectural ornaments, all grouped by period and regions as well as individually labelled. Inside the front cover is noted 'E Talbot Rice', by Enriquetta Harris Frankfort, former Head of the Warburg Institutes' Photographic Collections. Thus it has been attributed to Elena Talbot Rice, scholar of Russian and Byzantine art, who was married to David Talbot-Rice, art historian.

Donated by Dr Eckhart Marchant, Warburg Institute, School of Advanced Study, University of London. The items has been in the possession of the Warburg Institute at least since Enriquetta Frankfort, former Head of the Institute's photographic collections was in post.The item was offered to the University of Edinburgh owing to the connections with the Talbot-Rice family and because the Institute felt the item no longer fitted with their collections.
