The folder contains two drawings, one enigmatically labelled as being the work of Lady Bunbury, who along with her husband, accompanied the Lyell's on their trip to Madeira. There is more correspondence between Lyell and Hartung at Coll-203/1/123, in the series reference Coll-203/2, and in specific notebooks.

  1. Print labelled as "From the top of Penha d'Aguia drawn a.n. by G.Hartung Esqr" with "proof" written in pencil in the top right corner. The drawing is the view from the mountain peak of Penha d'Aguia, which is a volcanic mountain on the Island of Madeira. The drawing features two people looking out over the Island, and there are labels of the geographical location names. Dimensions – H-14cm, W-44cm
  2. Print labelled as "From S. Anna" [sic Santa Anna] with note "from a drawing by Lady Bunbury" written in pencil in the bottom left corner and "proof" also written in pencil in the top right corner. Dimensions – H-14cm, W-44cm
  3. Letter with no summary. Hartung writes to Lyell from Darmstadt, Germany, where he is visiting from Heidelberg. He thanks Lyell for sending him a copy of Lyell's address to the British Association at Bath [in September 1864], which Hartung has read about in German newspapers, and now thanks for the original. Hartung also mentions a Professor [name not legible] who has been to Geneva and Milan to look at the Simplon Pass, which is a high mountain in the Alps between Switzerland and Italy.
