Chantrey, Francis Leggatt, 31 October 1820
Scope and Contents
Autograph letter signed from Francis Leggatt Francis, [London], Belgrave Place, 31 October 1820, to Leonard Horner in Edinburgh: “My dear Sir. I am this moment returned from Derbyshire and find that Mr. Cunningham has already answered your enquiries respecting the conveyance of the Bust. I hope it has long ere this reached you in safety. With respect to the other enquiries of your letter – My normal price is one hundred guineas for the Bust, and as you have all along treated me with so much kindness, and obliged me in many particulars I beg you will accept of the Marble Profile – and which I by no means consider an equivalent. You will be glad to hear the statue is now going forward & that I hope to place it in its situation of honour early in next summer [...]”. With later pencil note on the inside of the bifolium. “This Letter to Leonard Horner was relative to Mr Chantrey’s Bust, & Statue of Francis Horner, the latter of which was placed in Westminster Abbey”.
