Scope and Contents
This is a collection of 108 autograph letters sent from various scientists, politicians, economists, artists etc. to members of the Lyell and Horner families. Also includes 41 portraits (photographs, etchings, and engravings).
Letter recipients (in alphabetical order):
- Byrne, Fanny Horner (1789-1876), sister of Leonard Horner;
- Horner, Anna Susanna (1786-1862), married to Leornard Horner;
- Horner, Frances Joanna (1814-1894), sister of Mary Lyell;
- Horner, Francis (1778-1817), brother of Leonard Horner;
- Horner, Joanna Baillie (b 1823), sister of Mary Lyell;
- Horner, Leonard (1785-1864), father of Mary Lyell;
- Horner, Susan (1816-1900), sister of Mary Lyell;
- Lyell, Charles (1767-1849), father of Charles Lyell (1797-1875);
- Lyell, Charles (1797-1875), Scottish geologist;
- Lyell, Katharine Murray (1817-1915), sister of Mary Lyell;
- Lyell, Mary (1808-1873), married to Charles Lyell;
- Lyell, Leonard (1850-1926), son of Katharine Murray Lyell;
- Lyell, Rosamond Frances Anne (1856-1904), daughter of Katharine Murray Lyell;
- Pertz, Dorothea (1859-1939), daughter of Leonora Horner;
- Power, Anne (1789-1867), sister of Leonard Horner.
