From a typed note pasted on the page: "Ainslie, John, D.D. (St. Andrews). Born at edinburgh, 1808. Studied at Edinburgh University and Theological Hall. Ordained at Dirleton, 1835. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission; translated to St. Andrews, 1847. Retired, 1876. Married, 1841, CAtherine W. Duff; and, in 1826, Janet Scougall or Willoughby. Died, 1895".
