From a typed note pasted on the page: "Bonar, Andrew Alexander (1810-1892), Scottish divine; brother of Horatius Bonar [q. v.]; educated at Edinburgh; licensed preacher, 1835; ordained minister of Collace, Perthshire, 1838; joined Free church, 1843; minister of Finnieston, Glasgow, 1856-92; published religious writings. [Suppl. i. 232]". From a second typed note pasted on the page: "Bonar, Andrew Alexander, D.D. Born at Edinburgh, 1810. Studied at Edinburgh University. Ordained at Collace, Perthshire, 1838. In 1839 he visited the Continent and Palestine along with Dr. Black, Dr. Keith, and his friend M'Cheyne on a mission of inquiry to the Jews. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Married, 1848, Isabella Dickson. Translated, 1856, to Finnieston, Glasgow. In 1878 Dr. Bonar was Moderator of the General Assembly which met that year in Glasgow. The same year his congregation removed rom the Mission Church at Finnieston to a more commodious building in the west end of the city. Became senior minister, 1891. The name of Andrew Bonar will always be associated with that of the man whose biographer he became - R. M. M'Cheyne. Dr. Bonar entered whole-heartedly into every Revival movement in his day, notably into that led by the American evangelists, Moody and Sankey. Died, 1892.
