From a typed note pasted on the page: "Bonar, Horatius, D.D. Brother of foregoing. Born at Edinburgh, 1808. Studied at the University, Edinburgh. Ordained at North Church, Kelso, 1838. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Married, 1843, Jane Catherine Lundie. Translated, 1866, to Chalmers' Memorial Church, Grange, Edinburgh, of which he was the first minister. In 1883 Dr. Bonar was Moderator of General Assembly. Became senior minister, 1886. The name of Horatius Bonar is known in all branches of the Church of Christ and on both sides of the Atlantic through his hymns, many of which are to be found in the collections of all the Reformed Churches. His preaching was that of a strong and cogent intellect, clear, well-defined, and simple, moving on the lines of evangelical truth. Died, 1889.
