From a typed note pasted on the page: "Bonar, John, D.D. Son of Rev. Archibald Bonar of Cramond. Born, 1799. Studied at Edinburgh University. Ordained at Larbert, 1826. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Had charge of both Larbert and Dunipace. Translated, 1846, to Aberdeen, South; and, 1848, to Glasgow, Renfield. Having supplied Côté Church, Montreal, for a time, Dr. Bonar became deeply interested in the Colonies, and was in 1854 appointed secretary of the Free Church Colonial and Continental Committees. Died, 1863."
