From a typed note pasted on the page: "Brown, Thomas, D.D. (Glasgow). Born at Closeburn, 1776. Studied at the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Ordained at Tongland, 1807; translated, 1826, to St. John's Glasgow. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Was Moderator of the Assembly which met in Glasgow in October 1843. Married, 1808, Eliza Duncan. Died, 1847. Publication.- Sermons , with memoir by Dr. P. M'Farlan." From a handwritten inscription on the page: "Minister of St. John's Parish Church Glasgow, and afterwards of St John's Free Church A.C.F.".
