Biographical / Historical
From a typed note pasted on the page: "Clason, Patrick, D.D. (Glasgow). Brother of the foregoing. Born at the Manse of Dalziel, 1789. Studied at the Universities, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Ordained, 1815, at Camunnock, near Glasgow. Translated, 1824, to St. Cuthbert's Chapel-of-Ease, Edinburgh. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. On the 18th May 1843. Dr. Clason was appointed joint-clerk with Mr. Pitcairn of the Free Church General Assembly. This office he held for upwards of twenty-four years, and was thus closely associated with the early history of the Church, and with the movements that succeeded the Disruption. In 1848 Dr. Clason was Moderator of the General Assembly. Dr. Clason's health made it necessary for him to winter abroad, and he did good service for the Church in several foreign countries, as Egypt, Palestine, Malta, and Madeira. In 1854 he became senior minister. In May 1867, when Dr. William Wilson, the Moderator of the previous year, was conducting the opening services in the Assembly Hall, Dr. Clason was taken suddenly with illness from which he never recovered. Died, July 1867."
