From a typed note pasted on the page: "Brown, Alexander Watson. Born at Musselburgh, 1811. Studied at the University, Edinburgh. Ordained at St. Bernard's, Edinburgh, 1841. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Married, 1842, Eliza Hume Lockhart. Left the Free Church in 1863, and became minister of the Church of Scotland in Aberdeen. Died, 1895. Publications.- Manual of Scripture Instruction. Discorses on the Song of Solomon."
