From a typed note pasted on the page: "Couper, David, D.D. Born at Dunfermline, 1809. Studied at the Universities of St. Andrews and Edinburgh. Ordained at Burntisland, 1834. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Married, 1845, Mary Bertram Williamson. Dr. Couper gave ministerial service for six months in Canada. The extra-ordinary response of Fife to the Free Church Summons in 1843 was largely owing to Dr. Couper's exertions. Died, 1882."
