From a typed note pasted on the page: "Duncan, Henry (1774-1846), founder of savings banks; studied for two sessions ar St. Andrews; minister of Ruthwell, Dumfriesshire, 1798-1846; brought Indian corn from Liverpool in a time of scarcity; instituted at Ruthwell the first savings bank, 1810; D.D. St. Andrews, 1823; discovered the Ruthwell runic cross; pointed out the footmarks of quadrupeds on the new red sandstone of Corncockle Muir; moderator of the general assembly, 1839; published 'The Sacred Philosophy of the Seasons,' 1835-6, and other works." From a second typed note pasted on the page: "Duncan, George John Craig, D.D. Born, 1807. Son of the following. Ordained assistant and successor at Kirkpatrick-Durham, 1832. Married, 1833, Isabella W. Clark. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Translated, 1844, to North Shields; and 1851, to Greenwich: thereafter he was appointed Lecturer on Pastoral Theology in the Theological College of the English Presbyterian Church in London. Resigned, 1861, to become general secretary of the English Prebysterian Church. Died, 1869." From a third typed note pasted on the page: "Duncan, William Wallace, M.A. Born, 1808. Son of Dr. Duncan, Ruthwell. Studied at the Universities, Glasgow, St. Andrews, and Edinburgh. Ordained at Cleish, Kinross-shire, 1836. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Married, 1836, Mary Lundie; and, 1842, Rachel B. Hill. Translated to Peebles, 1843. Died, 1864."
