From a typed note pasted on the page: "Duncan, John. Born at Kirkcaldy, 1802. He was one of Edward Irving's pupils. Studied at Edinburgh University. Mr. Duncan laboured as probationer for several years at Houndswood, Berwickshire. He gathered a congregation whuch was erected into a quoad sacra charge. Ordained there, 1836. Translated, 1837, to Ceres. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Translated to St. Bothwells, 1843. Became senior minister, 1861. Died, 1867."
