From a typed note pasted on the page: "Elder, Robert, D.D. Born at Inveraray in 1808. Studied at Glasgow University. Ordainedin 1831 in Kilbrandon, Argyllshire. Translated to Killin, 1834; and, 1838, to St. Paul's, Edinburgh. Married, the same year, Margaret Robson. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Translated to Rothesay, West, 1847. Was Moderator of the General Assembly, 1871. Became senior minister, 1882. Dr. Elder took a prominent part in that pre-Disruption work which paved the way for the great exodus. Died, 1892. Publication.- The Redeemer's Cry, and other Sermons."
