From a typed note pasted on the page: "Fairbairn, John Clarkson. Born at Edinburgh, 1811. Studied at the University, Edinburgh. Ordained at Allanton, 1844. Married, 1845, Margaret Wilson. Mr. Fairbairn was frequently employed as an evangelistic deputy, and was sent also to represent the Free Church in Canada and at Montreux. Died, 1873."
