From a typed note pasted on the page: "Fairbairn, Patrick (1805-1874), theologian; studied at Edinburgh; presented by the crown to North Ronaldshay, Orkney, 1830; professor of divinity in the free church theological college, Aberdeen, 1853-6; D.D. Glasgow; principal of the free churh college of Glasgow, 1856-74; moderator of the general assembly, 1865; chief work, 'Typology of Scripture,' 1845 and 1847; edited the 'Imperial Bible Dictionary.' [xviii. 122]". From a second typed note pasted on the page: "Fairbairn, Patrick, D.D. (Glasgow). Born in the parish of Greenlaw, Berwickshire in 1805, and studied at Edinburgh University. Ordained at North Ronaldshay (Orkney) in 1830. Married, in 1833, Margaret Pitcairn; in 1839, Mary Playfair; and, in 1861, Frances Turnbull. Translated, in 1837, to the new Extension Church of Bridgeton, Glasgow; and in 1840 to the Parish of Salton, East Lothian. He signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. In the autumn of 1852 Dr. Fairbairn was appointed assistant to Dr, Maclagan, Professor of Divinity in the Free Church College, Aberdeen, and in the following year became his successor. In 1856 Dr. Fairbairn was transferred to Glasgow as Professor of Theology, and in the year following was installed as Principal. He was Moderator of the General Assembly in 1864; and in 1870 he joined the Old Testament Company of Revisionists which met in Westminister Abbey. Dr. Fairbairn was an erudite Hebraist, and he was among the earliest Scottish theologians who explored the region of German theology. He died at Glasgow, 1874. Publications.- For the 'Biblical Cabinet' of Messrs. Clark, Principal Fairbairn translated Lisco on the Parables, amd Steiger on First Pe'er; and for the same firm, jointly with another, Hengstenberg's Commentary on the Psalms, and the Commentary of the same author on The Apocolypse. for Messrs. Blackie & Son he edited the Imperial Bible Dictionary. Separate Treatises: The Typology of Scripture, Esekiel and the Book of his Prophecy. Prophecy (a Sequel to Typology). A Hermeneutical Manual. Revelation of Law in Scripture. The Pastoral Epistles. Posthumous.- Pastoral Theology."
