From a typed note pasted on the page: "Fraser, Alexander Campbell, Hon. D.C.L., Hon. LL.D. (Princeton, Glasgow, Edinbugh, and Aberdeen), Hon. Litt.D. (Dublin), etc. Born in Ardchattan Manse, Argyllshire, 1819, the son of the Rev. Hugh Fraser, minister of the parish. After studying at Edinburgh University and Theological Hall he was ordained at Cramond, on the Firth of Forth, in 1844. In 1846 he was appointed Professor of Logic and Metaphysics in the New College, Edinburgh, and, in 1850, married Jemima Gordon, daughter of William Dyce, Aberdeen. In 1856 he became Professor of Logic and Metaphysics in Edinburgh University, in succession to Sir William Hamilton. He retired in 1891. From 1894 to 1896 he was Gifford Lecturer on Natural Theology in Edinburgh University. Publications.- Essays in Philosphy. Essays, Philosophical and Miscellaneous. Philosphy of Theism.
