Biographical / Historical
From a typed note pasted on the page: "Gibson, James, D.D. (Glasgow). Born at Crieff in 1799; studied at the University and Theological Hall, Glasgow. He was ordained in 1839 first minister of Kingston quoad sacra church, Glasgow, and married, in 1839, Elizabeth, daughter of Rev. Dr. John Campbell, Edinburgh. He signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. In 1856 Dr. Gibson was appointed Professor of Systematic Theology and Church History in the Free Church College, Glasgow. For some years also he acted as Clerk to the Free Presbytery of Glasgow. He died at Glasgow, 1871. Publications.- His larger works were: Man's Inability. The Marriage Affinity Question. Present Truths in Theology. The Decalogue in the Old Dispensation. Public Worship."
