From a typed note pasted on the page: "Grey, Henry (1778-1859), Free church minister; at Stenton, St. Cuthbert's Chapel, Edinburgh, 1813-21, the New North Church, 1821-5, and St. Mary's, 1829; seceded, 1843; chairman of general assembly, 1844; the Grey scholarships at New College, Edinburgh, founded in his honour. [xxiii. 188]". From a second typed note pasted on the page: Grey, Henry, D.D. Born, 1778. Son of Dr. Grey, physician, Morpeth. Studied at the University, Edinburgh. Ordained, 1801, at Stenton. Married, 1808, Margaretta Grey. Translated, 1813, to Buccleuch Chapel, Edinburgh; 1821, to the New North; and, 1824, to St. Mary's. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. In 1844 Dr. Grey was Moderator of the General Assembly. Became senior minister , 1857. Dr. Grey took a prominent part in the evangelical revival of his day; also in the Apocrypha controversy in opposition to Dr. Andrew Thomson. Died, 1859. Publication.- The Kingdom of God." From a pencil inscription written on the page: "He + his wife celebrated in the "apocrypha" controversy" in 1828. EK. A.C.F."
