From a typed note pasted on the page: "Hislop, Alexander. Born at Duns, 1807. Was for a time parish schoolmaster of Wick. Married, 1831, Jane Pearson. Signed the Probationers' Resolutions of Adherence to the Free Church. Ordained, 1844, at East Church, Arbroath. Became senior minister, 1864. Died, 1865. Publications.- The Two Babylons. The Red Republic. Infant Baptism."
