Biographical / Historical

From a typed note pasted on the page: "Wilson, William, D.D. (Edinburgh). Born in the parish of Westruther, 1808. Studied at the University, Edinburgh. After receiving licence in 1833 he acted as parochial missionary in Gorbals, Glasgow; and for some years edited the Scottish Guardian. Under the jus devolutum the Presbytery of Arbroath, in compliance with a petition from the parishioners, ordained him minister of Carmyllie, 1837. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. After the Disruption Mr. Wilson found himself without church or manse in a district where site refusal was the order of the day and could only secure a lodging seven miles distant from the sphere of his labours. Became minister of the Mariner's Church, Dundee, 1848. Here he built up a large congregation for which a new church was erected, later known as St. Paul's. He was clerk both of the Synod of Angus and Mearns, and of the Presbytery of Dundee. In 1866 Dr. Wilson was Moderator of the General Assembly, and in 1868 he became one of the principal clerks of that Court. In 1877 he was appointed joint-convener and secretary of the Sustenation Fund Committee, when he became minister emeritus, and removed to Edinburgh. From 1863 to 1873 Dr. Wilson was convener of the Home Mission Committee; he was also at different times convener of the Church and Manse Building Fund. Died, 1888. Born at Dysart in 1810; studied at St. Andrews and at Edinburgh University and Theological Hall; was ordained at Inverbrothock quoad sacra church, Arbroath, in 1836. Translated to Barry in 1838. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Dr. Lumsden was appointed Professor of Systematic Theology in Aberdeen Free Church College in 1856; and in 1864 became its first Principal. He died in 1875. Publications.- Baptism: its Nature and Objects. Sweden: its Religious State and Prospects. Difference between Free and Established Churches. Born in the parish of Glassford, 1800. Studied at the University, Glasgow. Ordained at Friockheim, 1837. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. For several years was clerk of Free Presbytery of Arbroath. Became senior minister, 1871. Died, 1872." From another typed note pasted on the page: "Leslie, Alexander. Born at Aberdeen, 1816. Studied at Marischal College, Aberdeen. Appointed lecturer in John Knox Church, Aberdeen. Ordained at Ladyloan, Arbroath, 1842. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Married, 1846, Isabella S. Morison. Translated, 1870, to Bon Accord, Aberdeen. Died, 1878."
