From a typed note pasted on the page: "Landsborough, David, D.D. (U.S.A.) Born in parish of Dalry, Galloway, 1779. Studied at the University, Edinburgh. Ordained at Stevenson, Ayrshire, 1811. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. At the Disruption Dr. Landsborough formed a Free Church congregation at Saltcoats, and remained thre himself when Stevenson was subsequently erected into a separate charge. Married, 1817, Margaret M'Leish. Dr. Landsborough was an accomplished student of natural history. He was one of twenty-five associates of the Linnaean Society. Died of cholera in 1854. Publications.- History of British Seaweeds. A History of British Zoophytes. Arran: A Poem. Excursions to Arran. Natural History of Arran. Aryshire Sketches." From another typed note pasted on the page: "Landsborough, David (1779-1854), naturalist; educated at Edinburgh University; ordained minister of the church of Scotland, 1811; studied natural history; discovered Ectocarpus Landsburgii (alga), and contributed to the 'Phycologia Britannica' of William Henry Harvey [q. v.]; joined the free kirk and becme minister of Saltcoats, 1843; published 'Excursions to Arran, Ailsa Craig, and the two Cumbraes,' 1847 (second series, 1852), 'Popular History of British Sea-weeds,' 1849 (rd edit 1857); published 'Popular history of British Zoophytes or Coralines'; said to have discovered nearly seventy species of plants and animals new to Scotland. [xxxii. 62]".
