From a typed note pasted on the page: "Main, Thomas, D.D. (Glasgow) (Edinburgh). Born at Slamannan, 1816. Studied at the University, Glasgow. Ordained at Kilmarnock, High, 1839. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Married, 1850, Williamina Cuninghame. Translated, 1857, to Free St. Mary's, Edinburgh. Dr. Main acted as convener, both of the Education and Foreign Mission Committees; of the former from 1873, and of the latter from 1878. He was Moderator of the General Assembly in 1880. Dr. Main had opened the General Assembly of 1881 when he was struck down by illness, and died during the sittings of the Assembly. Publication.- Memoir of Neil Russell, Student. Posthumous.- Memorials of the Life and Ministry of Thomas Main, D.D. By his widow."
