From a typed note pasted on the page: " Rintoul, Robert Stephen (1787-1858), journalist; set up as a printer at Dundee, 1809; edited (1811-1825) the 'Dundee Advertiser,' a paper which became one of the chief liberal journals in Scotland; went to London, 1826, and (1828) founded the 'Spectator,' which he sold in 1858. The 'Spectator' took a prominent part in the discussion of al questions of social and political reforms. [xlviii. 311]".
