From a typed note pasted on the page: "Symington, Andrew (1785-1853), Scottish divine; M.A. Glasgow, 1803; professor of theology in the reformed presbyterian church, 1820; published theological works. [lv. 268]". From a second typed note pasted on the page: "Symington, Andrew. Born at Paisley, 1836. Studied at the University, Glasgow, and Divinity Hall, Reformed Presbyterian Church. Ordained at Laurieston, 1864. Married, the same year, Mary Struthers. Translated to Greenock, Martyrs', 1869. Joined the Free Church at the union in 1876."
