Biographical / Historical

From a typed note pasted on the page: "Wood, James Julius, D.D. (Glasgow). Born at Jedburgh, 1800. Studied at the University, Glasgow. Ordained at Newton-on-Ayr, 1827. Married, 1835, Christian Henderson. Translated, 1836, to Stirling; and, 1839, to New Greyfriars', Edinburgh. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Shortly after the Disruption Dr. Wood's health gave way, and he spent some years officiating at Malta, Madeira, and other foreign stations. In 1848 he was settled at Dumfries, St. George's. In 1857 Dr. Wood was Moderator of the General Assembly. Became senior minister, 1875. Died, 1877. Publications.- Address on Quitting the Establishment. Letter to Greyfriars' (Edinburgh) Free Church, 1843."
