Biographical / Historical
From a typed note pasted on the page: "Brown, David, D.D. (Princeton and Aberdeen), LL.D. (Aberdeen). Born at Aberdeen in 1803, and studied at the local University. After being assistant to the celebrated Edward Irving in London, he was ordained at Ord, Banffshire, in 1836. He married Catherine, daughter of Dr. W. Dyce, Aberdeen, in 1836. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. Translated to St. James's, Glasgow, in 1843, he was appointed in 1857 Professorof New Testament Exegesis in the Free Church College, Aberdeen; and, on the the death of Dr. Lumsden, became Principal of College. In 1871 Dr. Brown was invited to take part in the work of the New Testament Company engaged in the Jerusalem Chamber, Westminster Abbey, on the Revision of the Authorised Version of the English Bible. He was Moderator of the General Assembly in 1885. Retired from his professorship in 1866, while retaining his principalship, and died in Aberdeen, 1897. Publications.- Portable Commentary on the New Testament, from Matthew to Romans ("Handbooks for Bible Classes"). Christ's Second Coming: Will it be Premillenial?
