Biographical / Historical
From a typed note pasted on the page: "Mackenzie, Hugh Mackay. Born, 1771. Son of Rev. W. Mackenzie of Tongue. Studied at Marischal College, Aberdeen. Ordained, 1796, chaplain of the Reay Fencibles, with whom he went to Ireland. He subsequently received a similar appointment to the Fraser Fencibles, with whom he remained till 1802. Inducted, 1806, successor to his father at Tongue. Married, 1813, Grace Mackenzie or Russell. Signed the Act of Separation and Deed of Demission. His son was associated with him in 1843. Both father and son suffered in health from the hardships of Disruption times, and died within a month of each other in the summer of 1845."
